Life Events

Sacraments

In the Episcopal Church, we mark life events with Sacraments, which are visible actions which represent the grace and love we receive from God. The Book of Commo Prayer defines them this way, “outward and visible signs of an inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ.”  p. 857

Baptism

Holy Baptism is full initiation by water and the Holy Spirit into Christ’s Body, the Church Book of Common Prayer, p. 298.

In Holy Baptism, we are welcomed into Christ’s Body, the Church, through water and the Holy Spirit. If you are exploring Baptism for yourself, your child, grandchild, or. godchild, we would be honored to walk with you. Please fill out this form or reach out to Mother Cynthia or Father Garth.

2026 dates for Baptism in include: January 1, April 5, May 24, November 1, and November 22.

Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation

Our faith is dynamic. Confirmation, reception and reaffirmation provide an opportunity to affirm the continuing movement of the Holy Spirit in our Lives.

The 1979 Book of Common Prayer describes the rituals of each rite:

  • Confirmation is the affirmation of the vows made at our baptism.
  • Reception welcomes people who have been confirmed in other Christian traditions into The Episcopal Church.
  • Reaffirmation is for those already in The Episcopal Church who want to renew their faith commitments at a key moment in their life.

The Sacraments of Confirmation, Reception, or Reaffirmation require preparation with a priest or participation in our annual Episcopal 101 class.

Marriage

St. Paul’s is inclusive and supports the marriage of all persons.

Christian marriage is a sacred covenant, in which two people make vows before God and the community, asking God’s blessing on their life together. A wedding at St. Paul’s is first and foremost an act of worship—joyful, reverent, and rooted in prayer.

Because weddings take place within the life of this parish, at least one member of the couple must be a member of St. Paul’s, or the child of a member of St. Paul’s. New members of St. Paul’s (less than one year in the parish) must obtain special permission from a member of the clergy.

All couples must participate in canonically required pre-marital counseling sessions either with a member of the St. Paul’s clergy, or with a qualified counselor or therapist approved by a member of the St. Paul’s Clergy.

Couples may submit a Wedding Request form and one of our Clergy will reach out to you.

Funerals

If you have a loved one who is close to death, please contact the clergy as soon as possible. We want to be with you, offer prayers at the time death, and walk with you through this very difficult time.

A member of the clergy will go with you to the funeral home to answer questions and confirm available dates and times for the service.

The funeral will celebrate the life of your loved one and remind us that eternal life continues with God. Using the options provided to us in the Book of Common Prayer, Clergy will help you plan the service.

life’s most sacred moments are shared in community. We baptize infants and adults into the life of Christ, walk with young people and seekers through confirmation, bless marriages with joy and reverence, and honor the lives of those we have loved and lost with funerals grounded in hope. These rites are never just ceremonies—they are moments of deep meaning, held with care and surrounded by prayer.
