The Rev. Cynthia McKenna has enjoyed serving as Rector of St. Paul’s since 2024. She was drawn to St. Paul’s by the beauty of the liturgy, the curiosity and kindness of its parishioners, and the rich, historic setting that continues to shape the life of this community. Her ministry weaves together parish leadership, pastoral care, and community engagement, helping the congregation live into its long tradition of justice, hospitality, and faith.
A lifelong learner, Cynthia holds an M.Div. from the Seminary of the Southwest, as well as an M.A. in Counseling and an M.Ed. specializing in Human Development. She loves serving as a parish priest and has also served the wider church as a school chaplain and psychotherapist, with a particular focus on trauma and healing. At the diocesan level, she serves on the Disciplinary Board and is also a spiritual director who leads quiet days and retreats.
Born in New Mexico, Cynthia spent most of her adult life in Texas. Raised Roman Catholic, she explored a variety of denominations before becoming an Episcopalian in college. She is happily settled in Petworth with her Labrador, Emmy Louise, and her cat, Frances Butterbean.
The Rev. Deacon Garth Wingfield is the Associate Rector at St. Paul’s Rock Creek, joining in 2026.
Fr. Garth comes to the parish from Virginia Theological Seminary, from which he earned an M.Div., concentrating in Christian Spirituality. His areas of focus at St. Paul’s are developing, strengthening, and expanding ministries with children, youth, families, and young adults.
A lifelong Episcopalian, he grew up in Houston and spent much of his adult life prior to seminary in New York City, where he had a long career in entertainment advertising, creating campaigns for Broadway musicals like Aladdin, The Lion King, and Chicago the Musical. He is also a produced playwright and has written for television series for ABC and Showtime. He has a B.A. from Columbia University.
In his free time, he loves seeing theatre, streaming movies on the elliptical, and reading murder mysteries. He is married to the Rev. Peter Manning, a Presbyterian minister serving in Arlington, and is the stepfather to Peter’s adult daughter, Katie Bishop-Manning. They have a small, weird rescue Poodle named Daniel.
Fr. Garth will be ordained to the priesthood in September 2026.
Jeremy Sullivan is Director of Music at St. Paul’s, guiding the work of preparing music for worship in the parish. He holds degrees in Church Music and the Master of Divinity. In seminary he received the Hoyt L. Hickman award for excellence in liturgical scholarship and worship leadership. A bi-vocational minister for twenty-some years, Jeremy has served as a pastor, a hospice chaplain, and as church musician. During the week he teaches English to fourth graders in a Spanish English immersion elementary school that serves a large population of English learners. He is a national board-certified teacher of literacy for early and middle childhood. Jeremy loves his plants, cooking, and collecting diverse books for his classroom library.
