Communications and Storytelling  Manager (part time, 15-20 hours a week)

Position Overview:

St. Paul’s Rock Creek is seeking a dynamic and experienced Communications and Storytelling Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for, creating, managing, and enhancing our online presence across multiple platforms, including our website, newsletter, and social media channels. This role offers an exciting opportunity to engage with our community, share our mission and values, and cultivate meaningful connections both online and offline.

In addition to strong digital communications skills, the ideal candidate is a thoughtful storyteller who can bring the parish to life through compelling narratives, highlighting the people, ministries, events, and moments that reflect our faith community. Through words, images, and multimedia content, this person will help tell the ongoing story of St. Paul’s in ways that inspire engagement, deepen connection, and extend our reach beyond our campus.

Responsibilities:

Creative Strategy and Management:

  • Develop and implement storytelling materials that capture and share the people, ministries, traditions, and impact of St. Paul’s using compelling narratives and voice. 
  • Craft and develop a comprehensive communications social media strategy to promote church events, programs, and initiatives.
  • Create compelling content, including graphics, videos, and written copy posts, for platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, and  Instagram.
  • Oversee the maintenance and updates of the church website, ensuring content is accurate, up-to-date, and engaging.
  • Monitor social media channels for engagement, respond to comments and messages, and foster online conversations within the community.
  • Monitor website, social media, and email analytics; produce monthly performance reports and insights that measure impact, inform decision-making, and support the continuous improvement of digital communications and engagement strategies.
  • Stay up-to-date with communications trends and best practices to maximize the effectiveness of our online presence.

 Newsletter Creation and Distribution:

  • Coordinate the creation, editing, and distribution of the church’s weekly newsletter.
  • Curate content, including articles, event announcements, testimonials, and updates from various ministries.
  • Manage subscriber lists and ensure compliance with data protection regulations..

 Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with staff,  ministry leaders, and volunteers to gather content and ensure alignment with organizational goals and messaging.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders to gather feedback, share updates, and solicit input on initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between the church and external vendors or contractors for web development, design, or marketing projects.
  • Other communications responsibilities as assigned. 
  • Compassion and kindness a must, bonus points for a sense of humor.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in website management, newsletter creation, and social media management, preferably in a non-profit or religious organization.
  • Strong writing, editing, and communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in website content management systems (e.g., WordPress), email marketing platforms (e.g., Constant Contact ), and social media management channels.
  • Familiarity with the Episcopal Church and its traditions (preferred but not required).
